Newtown Art Space

The Newtown Precinct Art Space Program (NAS) is part of the Newtown Entertainment Precinct Project: a new initiative from Marrickville Council in partnership with the Newtown Entertainment Precinct Association.

The NAS is designed to give a hand to emerging professional artists who find rent of exhibition spaces too costly. This program offers exhibition space to artists in four alternative spaces which are: @ Newtown RSL, The Gladstone Hotel, Buzzbar Café and PACT Youth Theatre. The New View Gallery is another venue under the umbrella of NAS that is a gallery and which does charge rent.

The NAS program is about placing art in unfamiliar spaces. Carl Mower manager of Petersham RSL @ Newtown says " @ Newtown RSL is proud to support the Newtown Art Space Program, as it provides local artists the opportunity to show their works to a wide and varied audience who come through the club". Garry Burton from The Gladstone Hotel also attracts dozens and dozens of artists who are eager to exhibit their works at the funky walls of the hotel.

Earlier this year Donna Benson presented her exhibition ‘Dream Cat’ at The Gladstone Hotel and Cindy Tonkin exhibited ‘Inklings’ at @Newtown RSL at 52 Enmore Rd, Newtown.
